WOOLANING SCHOOL...

WHAT WE LEARN AT SCHOOL!

NORMIE MOREEN

My name is Normie Moreen. I am 13 years old and I am at year 7 at Woolaning School
  NASA Cloudsat

Our main study this year is the NASA CloudSat Program. Woolaning school will be gathering weather data in Litchfield Park and sending it to NASA to help with the problems of global warming and changing weather patterns. If we know about these problems we can work together to solve them.

NASA

Next year NASA will launch the A Train which is 6 satellites. They will orbit the Earth every 90 minutes. Each satellite has a different job to do. They will be up in the sky for two years.

Once the Satellites are up we gather data every day but only send data to NASA every 16 days. There are 100 other schools around the world doing the program NORMIE.

NICOLE MOREEN

My name is Nicole Moreen. I am 11 years old and I attend Woolaning School.

Nutrition

If you eat good food, you can do good work. First thing in the morning we have some bananas to get us going. For morning tea we have a muesli bar half an apple and an orange. Three days a week we have lunch at school.

We have meat and salad sandwiches. Then at the end of the day we usually have another banana. Last year we cooked lots of different foods and we made a recipe book. Next term we are going to start cooking again.

Maths

We always do our maths after morning tea. We chant our times tables. E play maths games. Then we do maths. The biggest numbers we ever saw are the distances of the planets from the sun.

Do you know that earth is about 150,000,000 km from the sun. That's one hundred and fifty million! The little kids are learning lots of new things. They love to count our new toy money.

Blow and Throw

In the morning we have blow and throw. That means we do deep breathing and blow our noses to clear our breathing tubes. We then do exercises and play a game of basketball. Now we're ready for school.

ANDREW MOODY

My name is Andrew Moody. I am 10 years old. I am in year 5 at Woolaning School.

Our Inter School Sports

Nearly every week the Christian College come over and play a game of basketball or soccer. We have lots of fun. Sometimes we win and sometimes we loose. We have the Marrara and Batchelor Schools come over to. We do gymnastics, make juggling balls and learn how to juggle. When we go to Batchelor School we have swimming sports. We try to have lots of different kinds of sports.

ERIC MOODY

My name is Eric Moody. I am 11 years old and I go to Woolaning School.

WORDS! WORDS! WORDS! WORDS!

We love words! We write lots of them every day. Some of them are little like: ‘me'. Some of them are big like: ‘disembarkation'. Sometimes we see how many words we can find in big words.

We found 75 in disembarkation. We write for different reasons: to tell others how to do things, to tell what we did yesterday, to write facts in a report, to make a story for everyone to enjoy.

Reading

After blow and throw we do reading. The older people read books like the Goosebumps series. The littlies read the picture books. The Goosebumps are hard and a bit scary but we enjoy them. The picture books are colourful and the littlies enjoy reading them.

BRISTON PETHERICK

My name is Briston Pethrick. I am 10 years old and I am a student at Woolaning School at Litchfield Park.

Briston's Story

Every day I write a story in my book and I do good good work and make my teacher proud. Mum and my brother come to look at my work Nanna comes to. Nanna is an artist. She helps me with my drawing. I love drawing.

Paying Our Way

Nanna Daisy and Wendy are very gidfted artists. They come and show us how to do traditional painting. We did lots of painting and have already sold some. We sell them at Wangi Falls and at school.

The money we earn helps us to go on trips. This year we're off to Alice Springs and Uluru. We will have a great time. Next year we are planning to go to Canberra and the snow.

NEIL MOREEN

My name is Neil Moreen. I am 9 years old and I attend Woolaning School.

Our Garden

We made a vegetable garden. It has lots of vegetables in it. First we made a big garden bed with logs around it. The soil is special. It doesn't have any dangerous chemicals at all.

We call it a ‘BIO-DYNAMIC' garden. That means there are minerals and manure in the soil and lots of healthy bugs. Some of the bugs are so tiny we will have to look at them through the microscope.

Solar System

This year we studied the solar system. We learnt all about our planets and made models of them. We went to the Space Exhibition and tried to land a space shuttle.

An astronomer is visiting with his big telescope so we can see the moon and plantes up close. We set up the telescope and watching venus orbiting the sun.

Blue Light Disco

We play basketball on the court before we dance. Belyuen and Dundee Beach School come to and they camp over in the library.

Every year we have a Blue Light Disco. We have it out on the basket ball court under the stars and we have great fun. The flashing lights are colourful. All the big kids come form the Christian College.
