PEPPIMENARTI SCHOOL...

Peppimenarti Activities & Events!

Our most recent school event was an open day for the parents and carers of the school students. The day was very well attended and after visiting the classrooms and meeting the teachers a special lunch was provided.

Later in the year a special ceremony will be held to officially open the new classroom at the Emu Point outstation.

Other school event was Diabetes Day, held in conjunction with the Community clinic. Members of the Community affected by diabetes were invited to the school  and the students participated in a variety of activities designed to promote awareness of diabetes and healthy living. The day ended with a healthy feast prepared by the students.

Early 2005 we had a visit from Kidz Fun Biz who run circus workshops for schools. The students made props such as juggling balls and tricky sticks and were then taught how to use them. The children also tried stilts, tightrope, unicycle and other circus tricks. The day ended with a community concert in which the children showed off their new found skills.

An important community event in 2005 was the Peppimenarti Art Festival. Peppimenarti Community in conjunction with the Karen Brown Gallery in Darwin, held the Festival to promote art work done by local artists. The festival was attended by several VIP's including the Chief Minister, the state Sports Minister and gallery curators from around Australia. Students were able to display their weaving and wood work. A group of students performed traditional dance with other community members. The festival concluded with a barbeque held at the school.
