DUNDEE BEACH SCHOOL

NEWS!

Throughout 2004, Dundee Beach School students worked with COASTCARE in conducting quarterly Marine Debris Surveys, aimed at facilitating the study of the effects of marine debris on native wildlife and local habitat. In 2005, we are continuing with the Marine Debris Surveys and will also work with COASTCARE to conduct a Soil Erosion Survey on a nearby beach cliff. The Soil Erosion Survey was started at the beginning of the wet season in 2004 and will measure the distance of erosion during the 2004/2005 wet season.

Marine debris is collected, sorted and recorded before being taken to a waste disposal facility. It is great to be able to spend the time at our beautiful beaches and finish the day with a sausage sizzle.

In 2004, we received a grant from the Office of Environment & Heritage for an Anti-Litter Campaign project in the Dundee area. Since then we have been designing, creating and placing signs throughout the community. We are continuing with this project into 2005.
