ACTIVITIES & EVENTS...

FUNKANA!
The Douglas Daly District Funkana 2002 took place on the 13th July with competitors, spectators and the likes having an enjoyable day, night and morning. (I don't know how enjoyable the next day was for some, though).  The many events included the apple bob, the flag race, the roping race, barrel race and the bareback barrel race. The event raised over $4 000 to go towards the development of the Sport and Recreation area at the new town-site of Fleming and was organised by the Douglas Daly Community Development Association Inc.

The Douglas Daly Fishing Competition
The 2002 Douglas Daly Fishing Competition kicked off at the Douglas Daly Social Club on Friday night, 4th October, with teams arriving late into the evening.

The organising committee was one down as Steve Lucas, had caught the POX from his darling wife (the chicken variety, that is!) Boy, was he sad about that! This forced the Celtic Cruisers to recruit a ring in from town at the eleventh hour.

Saturday morning saw the R's and the J's (Roz, John, Russell and Julie), up at sparrows cooking copious quantities of 'frog in the log' and bacon. Competitors gathered and gorged and then packed their smokos for a hard day on (and for some - in) the water.

The scorching build up heat saw some competitors retreat back to the clubhouse for lunch and re-hydration. New of heroic and not so heroic deeds started to filter in at this time and the stories of the "Hillbillies" efforts in successfully launching their boat and trailer at the Junction of the Douglas and Daly rivers began it's journey into the district folk legends. Better still the Team NAFA event was immortalised in a Kodak moment with photos being captured by a member of the "Reel Peeple; Team A" (well done Mr Neal!).

Being truly competitive fisher-people, lunch time brought about a split as half the field stayed to watch the pig-on-a-spit go around and around and around, while the other half trudged off via air-conditioned accommodation to the river for the arvo's competition.

It was a really great weekend and thanks to Steve & Kim Lucas (even though Steve used his pox as an excuse to spend the weekend in bed), Russell and Julie and everyone who helped with the cleaning, cooking, bar, desserts, the tomato growers and the list goes on and on. Thanks to Geoff and Melissa for the 'A' grade peanuts that were devoured over the weekend. Kingaroy, eat your heart out.

A whopping $1932.28 was raised to go towards a new pool and games room at the Social Club.
