ABOUT DOUGLAS DALY...

Welcome to our School!
Douglas Daly School is a small, remote school situated in a semi rural area.  Douglas Daly is a one teacher school but we have an assistant teacher as well.  All year levels are taught in the one classroom.  Our students range from Transition to Year 7.

Location
Douglas Daly School is located on the DBIRD Research farm approximately 220kms south west of Darwin. The Research Farm is located near the junction of the Douglas and Daly Rivers.

About the Research Farm
Research is carried out on cattle and crops such as peanuts, maize, sesame, sorghum and mung beans. In the past there has been research carried out on crops like cotton and potatoes.
Oolloo Road is the main road into the Douglas Daly Region. In the district we have lots of cattle stations and some of these are Kumbyechants, Ceres Downs, Ruby Downs, Stray Creek, Middle Creek and Bonalbo.

History
The Douglas Daly Research Farm is a product of Government attempts to develop a high quality, tropical, cattle-raising program, accompanied by suitable grain production.  This venture began in the early 1960s and following the establishment of the Research Farm, Douglas Daly School commenced in 1982.

A number of community-based organisations also exist in the Douglas Daly district.  The Playgroup Association caters for the needs of the younger children and their parents.  The ‘Junction Journal’, a community newsletter published monthly, keeps the residents of the district informed of local events and activities and of issues related to agriculture and work safety.  The Junction Journal also involves the students of the school through the ‘Student of the Month’ initiative and through the continuing promotion of school based achievements.
