The Arts

The Arts Learning Area includes dance, drama, music, media and the visual arts.

Teachers incorporate teaching of the Arts in their classroom programs, often combining it with other curriculum areas for cross-disciplinary learning experiences

Visual Arts

In addition to individual classroom programs, a specific Visual Arts Program is provided for the majority of classes from Transition to Year 6 at Stuart Park. Students attend classes once a week for 60 minutes.

Music

Instrumental Music Instruction

Qualified instructors are available for instruction in the playing of various musical instruments eg. drums, guitar, saxophone in years 5 and 6.

The school focus on music has grown over the last few years and we now have a school band as well as a junior and senior recorder choir.

Eisteddfod

The Eisteddfod takes place in Darwin each year in May. Individuals, groups or classes can enter a variety of categories. The school usually enters items such as poetry, song and dance.

Three major strands are identified within the Arts learning area. These encourage learners to:

explore ways of using the arts to communicate different ideas and feelings;
discover and apply skills, techniques, processes, conventions and technologies of the arts; and
use arts language, knowledge, skills and aesthetic understanding to respond to, reflect on and evaluate the arts.

The Beat

A musical institution for Darwin primary and secondary students is the BEAT concert which each year enables hundreds of students the opportunity to perform at a major performance venue.

Over the years this has seen many talented students take part. Stuart Park school's choir participates in the primary Beat school choir.

Students in years 5 and 6 are given the opportunity to join our school choir under the direction of our music teacher and they have become a very accomplished group of singers.

They have performed at school assemblies, Anzac Day and combined with sixteen Top End Primary schools for this year’s annual BEAT performance, The BEAT Makes a Splash.
