Relief Teachers

All Official NT and Interstate Exchanges/Championships are those events listed in the School Sport NT Update Magazine which will be in all schools every two months. These events are those that have been authorised by the Secretary of the NT Department of Education.

For each of the NT Exchange and Championship events, a Convenor is appointed to run and organise all aspects in conjunction with the Executive Officer of School Sport NT. At the conclusion of each event, the Convenor will complete a form for officials present and send it to the Executive Officer. This must be done immediately after the event.

A claim form for all School Sport NT relief teacher days will be published in each Update magazine and is available on this site. It is each school’s responsibility to use these forms to claim reimbursement. Please note claims will only be honoured up to 30 days after the event. The Executive Officer will pay schools within 30 days of receipt of this claim form. Full details for claiming reimbursement are on the form.

For each Interstate Exchange/Championship, the Executive Officer will use the movement Requisition form as a check, and once again reimburse schools on receipt of the School Sport NT claim form for relief teachers. This claim for payment must be made within 30 days of the teachers’ return from interstate in order to be honoured.

Any exceptional cases will be accompanied by a letter from the Executive Officer giving details.

Relief hours/days will only be paid for actual face to face time for the duration of the advertised Exchanges/ Championships.  Some travel time may attract relief allocation.  This is to be negotiated with the Executive Officer.

The above procedures should be followed in conjunction with the rules of the School Sport NT.

Any queries please contact the Executive Officer.

Note:

  • As School Sport NT does not pay wages, but rather reimburse schools, and as schools pay the relief teachers, then schools need to claim the superannuation from the Department like all other teacher refunds of superannuation.

  • Relief assistance can also be given for janitors, teacher aides and clerical assistants. This assistance, however, is based on the base grade wage irrespective of the person’s salary level.

Relief Teacher Days

Each event Convenor is given one day prior to the event to complete preparations

  • finalise billeting;
  • prepare for officials meeting;
  • airport collection;
  • collect programs from the office;
  • collect other supplies from the office

Convenors must complete the Attendance Sheet for Team Officials and return them immediately after the event to the School Sport NT office.

All relief teacher claims will only be paid on Claim for Reimbursement forms after checking the Convenor’s attendance sheet.

  • A reminder to be real with relief teacher claims.
  • No relief is paid for non-teaching positions, principals or deputy principals.
  • Relief teacher allocation is not automatic and is subject to DEET funding.
