Rugby League rocks into
the Palmerston area on Tuesday 22nd April. All school students between
13 and 15 years of age are able to compete in this event. From previous
years records we can expect to see about 100 students take part
in this event. Students selected for the Interstate squad will get
a chance to visit Wynnum in Queensland.
Day 1 Arnhem got off to a flying start against PARCS winning 22
to 6, before a fighting comeback to draw 22 to 22 against Northern
Suburbs. PARCS came back from 26 to Nil against Rivers at half time
to narrowly lose 26 to 20. City played very strongly defeating Northern
Suburbs 30 to 4 and getting over the line against Rivers 24 to 22.
Northern Suburbs struggled with just 12 fit players after game 1,
to bravely draw with Arnhem 22 to 22. Some scoring highlights were
Quinton Pomare’s try effort and also Lewis Bilich’s three
try effort. Great day had by all.
Day 2 Another great day of Rugby League! Arnhem beating Rivers
22-14 and leading 18-0 at half time, then held on to defeat City 22-20
in a great game. Northern Suburbs showed great courage drawing with
PARCS 14-14 and defeating Rivers 20-16 with only 12 fit players. PARCS
have drawn with Arnhem and Northern Suburbs over the two days and
with the majority of this team being eligible for next year’s
Championship, the future looks bright!
