NETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008
 

HOST CLUSTER: Northern Suburbs
DATES: 7th - 9th May
WHERE: Parap Netball Courts

Pre Event Meeting: Friday 2nd May via teleconference

As the boys rule with AFL in Alice Springs, the girls will strut their stuff in Parap on the netball courts. We can expect to see 115 13 – 16 years old girls participate in the Netball Championships in May. The northern suburbs cluster will host the event and preparations are already well underway. Girls selected for the interstate squad will have the opportunity to travel to South Australia to compete. Good luck girls.

Results -
At the end of Day 1 Desert storm Vixens, City Green, Northern Suburbs 1 and Rivers 1 remain undefeated.

Opening Ceremony Highlights –
Noni Harold did an excellent job at Student MC She spoke about her trip to Sydney last year. “….. This was one of the physically and mentally challenging, fun and undefinably awesome trips I have ever been on” Sue Healy, principal of Casuarina Senior College also spoke about her own involvement in Netball many years ago.

Memorable Moments
Hot hot hot. The Northern Suburbs girls set their shade in the middle of an used netball courts, sadly they could not use the shade to cover the entire netball complex.

day2
Day Two – Thursday May 8th

Daily Highlights -
Closeness of the games. Rivers 1 and City Red played a thrilling 17 all draw. Desert Storm Vipers narrowly defeated City Red by one goal. City Red obviously likes to keep their supporters on the edge of their seats.

The big improvers of the Championships are Arnhem Blue who today started scoring goals.

At the completion of the Pool games City Green and Northern Suburbs 1 remain undefeated so tomorrow should see some closely contested games during the cross-overs and onto the finals.
Rivers 1 will face up to City Green while Desert Storm Vixens will play Northern Suburbs 1 in the struggle to see who will play the final.

Memorable Moments (Sport related or otherwise) -
The PD presentation by Jess Moller who is off in two weeks time to play Netball for the SS Australia team against SriLanka, New Zealand, Pacific Island, Indigenous SS Australia ( Cindy Drover and Acacia Lewis who are also playing at SSNT event are members of this team)
Jess spoke and encouraged the students to work as a team using their own unique skills. Jolette from Arnhem Green said “Jess was interesting and said how important it is to work as a team”
The students from PARCS Blue welcomed the opportunity to meet and find out information about students from other clusters.

Bill Adams the SSNT coach told some of his stories about Jess.
A great photo of NTs 3 Australian Netball reps - friends today but in 2 weeks time there will be competing against each other well Jess against Cindy and Acacia.

Day 3 – Friday May 9th

Daily Highlights - Cross over games
A thrilling close game was played between Parcs Blue who defeated Arnhem Blue narrowly 7-6 in the one of the Cross-over matches.
Nail Biting game between Rivers 1 and Desert Storm Vixens; equal scores at full time lead to extra time. Final result was Desert Storm victorious by 1, 21 - 20 in the play off for 3rd and 4th.

Closing Ceremony Highlights -
Student MC was Dan East from O’Loughlin College who represented SSNT at Basketball in 2005 Pacific School Games. Dan spoke of how his Pacific School Games experience set him on a pathway to further representative honours.
