HOST CLUSTER:
Rivers DATES: 16th April - 18th April WHERE: Katherine Town Oval CONVENORS: Bryan Hughes and Greg Black Pre Event Meeting: Friday April 4th @ 3.30pm via
teleconference.
On Wednesday 16th April
Katherine Town Oval will come alive with budding Cricket athletes.
We have 12 teams nominated for the event and all players are billeting
with families from the Rivers Cluster – how exciting. Girls
in cricket are a strong focus this year and we are pleased to include
8 girls in our participating teams. Congratulations and appreciation
to Joshua Lonie, a year 11 student at Palmerston High, for taking
on the role of Coach for one of the PARCS teams. Good luck at the
event to all.
The day began with
some outstanding displays of teamwork, the willingness of the
Team Managers and Coaches to work together and help out with setting
up the ovals in readiness for some cricket action contributed
to a great day of activities.
The number of students participating in coaching and umpiring
highlights the development of not just young players, but officials
as well.
The enthusiasm of all the cricket players was contagious and got
everyone excited about the day’s events. The 5 girls in
the invitational team strutted their stuff beautifully and contributed
to a day 1 win for their team.
It was pleasing to note the inclusivity of both indigenous and
non indigenous students in all our cricket exchange teams.
The day ended with a one run victory to PARCS purple in the 30th
over in their game against City Green – action packed!!
The Opening Ceremony
was a huge success, made possible by the Katherine High Student
MC’s. Their enthusiasm, maturity and professionalism were
a credit to them and their families. The Ceremony was short, sweet
and to the point.
DAY 2
The interaction between
all the cricket teams has been fantastic – Katherine kids
are great – give them more cricket. Sportsmanship displayed
by all players has been outstanding.
The Super 8’s competition was a great hit with all budding
cricket players having a great time.
Billet families from Katherine have been helpful and all cluster
students have enjoyed their first two nights stay. Katherine hospitality
is exceptional.
The standard of cricket being played has been at high level with
all games being very close, making for some great spectator action.
The memorable moment for Day 2 was the Katherine Council Mowing
Squad turning up at the start of the afternoon games to mow the
oval – needless to say they enjoyed some cricket instead.
They returned at 6pm to complete the job.
DAY 3
Today proved to be another
great day in Katherine for some outstanding cricket action. The
spirit in which the games were played was outstanding. The town
oval was mowed last night and provided some fast bowling and memorable
runs. The coaches and managers are to be commended on their teamwork
to ensure that the students were the focus of this event. Games
today proved to be fast paced and close scoring. Thanks to Tony
Stone, coach of Desert Storm Blizzard, in his acknowledgment of
the Rivers’ teams for their enthusiasm when playing against
stronger teams.
The closing ceremony
marked the end of a cricket success, with all students sitting on
the hill in true cricket style. The presentation was quick and to
the point with the interstate squad trying on their kit until 7.15pm.
Congratulations to PARCS Purple in Lee’s Legends and Desert
Storm Blizzard and PARCS Gold in Roy’s Rebels.
