HOST CLUSTER:
Northern Suburbs DATES: 21st - 23rd May WHERE: TIO Stadium Marrara CONVENOR: Stephanie Wannan PEC: Jenny Verrall Pre Event Meeting: Friday 16th May via teleconference
Whilst the girls take
to the Netball court the TIO Stadium will come alive with AFL action
as the 10 – 13 year old boys grab their boots and take to
the field. 200 students can be expected to participate in this event
and St John’s College will be hosting for Northern Suburbs.
Competition should be tough and the boys selected for the interstate
squad will have the opportunity to visit Victoria. Good luck boys
and play hard.
DAY ONE: Players arrived at the stadium early this morning in anticipation
of the games to play ahead. Two rounds of games were played before
the opening ceremony,
which was MC by Jack McEwin who did an outstanding job and the competition
was officially opened by Henry Grey, Principal of Leanyer Primary
school.
Many teams had only just come together in the morning games, as students
have travelled in from different areas. Those teams not playing had
an opportunity to scratch up on their skills with sessions run by
the AFLNT crew. Most students participating are very excited about
playing at TIO stadium and are looking forward to playing some excellent
games of footy.
Tomorrow will see all teams finish the round robin competition and
be divided into Pool's Tambling and Campbell's. Teams will also have
an opportunity for a PD session and a chance at an AFL quiz.
Many students have begun to develop new friendships through their
billeting families and also through playing against each other.
DAY TWO:
Day two saw teams come out fighting for positions in pool groups
Tambling Tumblers or Campbell's Chaos, by completing the
round robin games.
In the morning students
had opportunity to participate in PD sessions with Natalie McMaster,
who demonstrated various ways to stretch correctly for sports activities.
With a break in the morning,
teams had time to prepare themselves for the start of the pool rounds
with the games changing to 4 x10min quarters,
Desert Storm put up a
big fight, as they lost a couple of players to blood injuries and
a possible broken hand. One of the bigger upsets for the day was
Northern Suburbs Thunder defeating PARCS Palmerston in the first
round of the pool matches 29 - 15. Until then PARCS Palmerston had
been undefeated.
In the Campbell's Chaos
pool, there were a couple of very close games, in round two between
TEGS and Parcs Remote with TEGS defeating PARCS Remote by one point
13-12.
DAY THREE:
Day three of the AFL Exchange competition saw some great games of
Footy being played.
The pool games continued with some close results, as teams began to
tire after a long few days.
The final results, saw Northern Suburbs Stars fighting through to
be top of the ladder for Tambling Tumblers and PARCS Tegs who began
the carnival slowly, taking first position for the Campbell's Chaos
pool.
It was great to see players being enthusiastic and showing some great
sportsmanship both on and off the field.
A big thanks to all those involved, especially to all team officials
who put in some long hours to get the teams to the carnival.
Well done on a great carnival and catch you in 2009 .....
