Professional Learning

Successful professional learning is that which is

  • embedded in daily practice
  • arising out of direct needs
  • tailored to meet the specific circumstances or contexts of participants
  • sustained over a period of time

Targetting your professional learning
To get the most out of professional learning, ask yourself these questions:

  • what am I trying to achieve?
  • what do I need to learn or improve?
  • what resources or strengths do I already have in this area?
  • what other resources and ideas can I access?
  • what is the most effective way I can use my time to develop the skills and knowledge I need?

Think about:

  • who might be able to offer support at your school (eg senior teacher, curriculum leader, ICT team)
  • starting an interest group at your school
  • observing a colleague at work
  • finding a buddy to collaborate on a project
  • joining a professional association
  • finding a mentor
  • attending Teachers and Technology sessions

If you have a specific need or problem or would like to suggest a possible workshop idea, please let us know. If there are enough requests of a similar nature an activity could be organised.

Remember you can also find examples of Units of Work, Bright Ideas and ICT Integration Ideas in Explore NT. Log on to the NT Schools Portal for access.
