Katherine has a population of approximately 10,700 and is located 315 km south east of Darwin on the Katherine River at the junction of the Stuart and Victoria highways.

ranges from Dry season overnight lows of 10 deg C through to daytime build-up highs of 40 deg c. Average annual rainfall is approx. 800 - 1000mm  (mainly falling between November and March) FACILITIES: As a large community Katherine has most amenities and services including:  a large shopping centre (with Woolworths), sporting facilities (incl. olympic size pool), branches of Westpac, CBA, ANZ banks and NT Credit Society. Transport into Katherine include daily services from Darwin  (light aircraft) A local bus service... The Stuart Highway can sometimes be flooded during the wet season and cut off Katherine by road.  Air travel is usually OK all year round.
