Proudly primary and proudly public, Parap Primary School has been a specialist provider of primary and pre-school education for over 50 years.
Darwin’s longest established government Primary and Pre-School, the school has been serving the community and providing high quality, student-focused programs since 1958. The school provides a positive and nurturing environment in which students and their families are encouraged to engage in positive and diverse learning experiences. A major redevelopment of all of the school’s facilities has been ongoing for several years, making the school facilities among the most modern in the NT. The redevelopment is strongly focused on enhancing the learning environment of the school. Specialised programs for all students in Computing and Information Technology, Library and Physical Education are provided. The school is a designated Lighthouse School for Gifted Education programs, providing a whole school approach, the Horizons program, for students of all ages. Students with particular learning needs and Indigenous support activities are an integral part of the school’s program. Opportunities are available for students to participate in wide range of curriculum extension activities, including band and instrumental instruction, choirs, student leadership and governance programs, sporting, social and community caring programs. The school is a Teaching School partner with Charles Darwin University. Set in attractive, shady grounds, the School Council is undertaking significant upgrading of the school’s playground, including the development of a dedicated facility for younger students and more challenging play equipment for older students. The school’s historical and multicultural heritage is cherished and nurtured, providing students with a positive sense of their place in the social fabric of Australia. The school provides excellent after-school and vacation care programs under license to the Top End YMCA.
