Day One

Eddie: I can't wait! Today is the first day of Spike's and my BIG ADVENTURE! We are setting off to travel around the Territory, to check out the natural environment and the friendly people. It's going to be great! Spike spent three hours last night packing his bag, so I guess I'd better go and do mine before our boss, Lynne arrives to take us to the airport.

Spike: At last we are here! For our very first stop of on our trip around the Territory we have traveled to the remote location of Groote Eylandt. We arrived in Alyangula aboard the 'Air North' plane and we were taken to school by Mrs. Sam Owczarek. She teaches Physical Education and Information Technology to all the kids at Alyangula Area School.

First we were with the Year 2/3's. Eddie worked in the Computer Room and I worked in the Library. We helped the Year 2/3's write their reports about China, India and Vietnam. We learnt a lot about these countries. They were really good kids. Here are some photos . . .

Spike: Gee, Eddie, you must know a lot about computers to be able to help those kids so well.

Eddie: Yes Spike but you work much better with books in the library.

Here is Spike with Meg and Cailtyn helping them with their reports.

Spike also helped Jessica find information in the Library.

Spike: After all that hard work we had to go outside and have recess with some of the Year 6/7 girls (they even gave me a girlfriend Eddie - her name was Filliana).

Eddie: Spike, do you think Selina was upset when I ate the rest of that sandwich.

Spike: She probably was you know Eddie, you didn't ask.

Eddie: Sorry Selina.

Year 6/7 girls eating their lunches. Guess which one is Spike's girlfriend.

Then it was time for some Gymnastics with the Transition Year 1 classes. We had some fun doing rolls and cartwheels.

Forward Roll!

T raining for the Olympics?

What a cartwheel. The audience is overwhelmed.

Spike: Hey Eddie, what did you do for lunch?

Eddie: Don't you remember Spike, I went to the Preschool and played in the house corner.

Preschool's House Corner.

What did you do for lunch Spike?

Spike: I went to the Front Office and helped Barney (Year 6/7) with his Office Duty. It was really fun, I got to talk to all sorts of people.

Barney and Spike 'working the phones'.

Eddie thought that sounded fun. He came and helped too!

After lunch we were able to spend some time with the Secondary Students - the Year 8's in fact. They were having fun on the computers. Here's me helping Leilani.

After school we became part of the student council when they had their meeting. We were discussing a very important topic - the annual concert!

Eddie: I wish we could have stayed for that! Never mind, I am sure there a lot of other schools out there that are having special events that we could go to.

Spike: Thanks to all the students at Alyangula Area School who allowed us into their classrooms! Where are we off to next Eddie? Today was so much fun I can hardly wait.
