Teaching & Learning
In 2011 the school's strategic learning focus includes:
● Developing a whole school approach to writing, grammar and punctuation
● Improving NAPLAN writing results to above national standards
● Implementing a whole school approach to spelling
● Piloting the new National curriculum
Reading and Writing
The First Steps Reading and Writing Program is being used to provide the whole school approach for the teaching of reading and writing.
During Term 1 and 2 teachers are working with staff from Teaching, Learning and Standards to develop their knowledge of writing, writing strategies and ways to help students write .
Sustainable Practices at NPS
A major initiative at NPS is the development of student action teams to develop ways of reducing our impact on the environment through sustainable practices. Our energy savings target by end 2011 is 10%.
Mathematics
A major focus of the renewed NTCF is the development of problem solving skills. A whole school initiative will see the development of teaching strategies promoting students' abilities to work mathematically and solve a range of problems.
The school aims to improve its excellent NAPLAN results in Maths. (Above Australian average)
