AGE OF ENTRY
Our Preschool program operates on morning or afternoon sessions. Students who turn 4 by 30th June may enrol at the commencement of the school year, in line with the Age of Entry Guidelines. Children turning 4 after this date may enrol once they turn 4 years old; subject to vacancies.
The Preschool can be contacted on (08) 8920 6870.
Our Transition program provides the first year of full-time schooling from the beginning of the school year for students who turn 5 years old by 30th June. This ensures that all students spend a full school year in Transition.
GIFTED EDUCATION
Moil School currently has one identified class for students assessed as gifted which covers Years 2 to 6. In addition we have clusters of gifted students working within mainstream classes.
Younger students deemed gifted will be catered for in mainstream classes with Individual Education Plans and specialised programs as appropriate.
We are confident that these options will continue to provide gifted students with innovative and challenging educational programs.
INDIGENOUS EDUCATION
Indigenous students are offered support through the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme. Tutors work with students in their classroom under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
A Nutrition program is also operational five mornings a week from 7:30 am to 8:00am.
The Birraba Homework Centre is available for indigenous students who are 8yrs old and over. The Homework Centre operates on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:45pm to 4pm.
SPECIAL EDUCATION
Moil School has a Special Education teacher providing programs for students with specific learning needs generally within the context of their mainstream classroom.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
Students who speak English as a Second Language (ESL) are supported by our part-time ESL teachers who work closely with students and their teachers, generally within the context of their classroom, to ensure that proficiency in written and spoken language is developed.
MUSIC
We offer an enriching Music program for all students from Transition to Year 6 which includes choirs and a band. Students are exposed to a wide variety of musical experiences which include singing, movement, notation and playing instruments.
The Music program is supported by the NT School of Music which allows students from Years 5 and 6 an opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument.
LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH
German lessons encompassing spoken and cultural aspects are offered to all students from Transition to Year 6. A German choir is also a feature of this program for interested students.
ART EXTENSION PROGRAM
We offer an art extension program (on a user pays basis) with lessons being given by a qualified artist. She aims to stimulate creative development and students gain an appreciation of materials, textures, line, colour and tone.
SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES
School Assemblies are coordinated by our Year 5/6 teachers and their classes. Assemblies are held each Thursday at 11:30am. Our school band plays the National Anthem and various classes present items as desired. Merit certificates, acknowledging good efforts, are presented weekly to students. Students may also bring in certificates, trophies and medals they have earned from outside organisations to be presented at assembly so that the school community can share in their success. Parents and friends are always welcome.
MOIL SCHOOL COUNCIL
Our School Council meets monthly to discuss relevant matters and to assist in future direction of our school’s plans. We welcome parent and community involvement.
STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL
Our Student Representative Council (SRC) is active in fundraising ventures to support the needs of students and charities. Elected members attend regular meetings and work conscientiously to ensure that the voice of the student body is heard.
