- What is Water Quality? -

Water quality is how healthy the water is. You can tell the water quality by the amount of macro-invertebrates. If there are a lot of bugs that means that the water has a lot of nutrients and is good for the environment.

Some of the things that affect Rapid Creek water are as follows:

Plant Communities: Plant communities help the creek to get all of the nutrients that it needs and provides energy for the animals that live off the creek, they also help with erosion.

Pollution: Pollution affects the creek in a lot of bad ways. It can be raw sewerage, litter and oil leaks etc. Pollution can be lethal to all of the wildlife.

Introduced species:
One of the introduced species is weeds. They can suffocate our native plants and that causes the animals that live off it to die. Another introduced species is Cane Toads. They were brought to Australia to get rid of the Cane Beetles, but they ate everything except Cane Beetles.

 - Our Excursion -

When our class went down to Rapid Creek we met from Greening Australia Jane Ellem and did the PH level test, oxygen test and the macro-invertebrates count. When we did the PH level test it was a 5 on the scale which is very good for humans and animals such as bugs. When we did the macro-invertebrates count we found some interesting insects that are fairly sensitive which is a really good sign.
