The school
operates a computer network. Each classroom has networked computers giving
access to the main Library file server. The whole school has Internet
access. File sharing is available between classrooms to share the useful
programs and software.
The school also has a bank of computers in the Computer Lab for use by students.
Students use the Lab to integrate Information Technology skills with classroom
learning. The new DEET (Department of Employment and Education Training)
roll out has provided our school with 28 new XP machines as well as a new
Windows based server.
ICT makes a significant contribution to teaching and learning across
the school curriculum, delivering engaging, exciting and innovative learning
experiences that empower all students in achieving better learning outcomes.
The ongoing commitment to ICT at Malak Primary has seen our students
celebrating their successes through winning the prestigious ITEANT (Information
Technology Educators Association of the Northern Territory) school award
for three consecutive years. Our aim is for continual improvement at Malak through:
-
the DEET upgrade of internet access from the satellite to optical fibre
(broadband)
-
the successful Federal Government funding submission to replace many
of the aging equipment in the school and the updated selected software
-
the upgrade of the school network, offering faster, more reliable solutions
-
the ongoing commitment by our staff attending professional development
and by improving the integration of ICT in the classroom.
Goals of ICT - Malak Primary School enables students to use computers
as a tool in the production of high quality work and to communicate with
others in any suitable area across the curriculum and in the world outside
of school.
Our goals are:
-
develop, maintain and inspire each student's curiosity, interest
and enjoyment in ICT
-
develop appropriate ICT skills, concepts, principles, methods
and vocabulary both in the students and staff
-
show students the wide range and flexible nature of ICT
-
enable all students equal access to ICT
-
encourage integration of ICT across all curriculum areas
-
support all staff in their need to develop confidence and strategies
in using ICT within their teaching, recognizing that support for staff
is vital if students are to progress
-
recognize that ICT is an essential part of our School's Strategic
Plan
