Accessibility Statement
This is the accessibility statement for the Larrakeyah Primary School Website.
Thanks to Mark Pilgrim for the suggested structure of this accessibility statement.
Access Keys
Access keys are used to quick jump to specific links defined within the website. They are used by pressing on the Alt key + Access key.
The following access keys are defined:
- 1 - Home
- 2 - About Us
- 3 - Location
- 4 - For Parents
- 5 - Learning With Us
- 6 - Search Feature
Links
- All the text of the links is meaningful, and provides a detailed description of what the links contain. This feature is aimed for visual impaired users that skim the pages searching for links, and therefore reading them out of context.
- All the pages have a Skip to Main Content link, located on the top of the page, which is invisible for users with stylesheets activated. This helps visual impaired users with screen readers to skip the navigation links, and head straight into the main content.
Images
- All images used in this website have a meaningful alternative description.
- No images are used as text.
Visual Design
- All pages of the website use CSS for visual layout. No table are used for that purpose, resulting in a leaner code and therefore alternative reading device friendly.
- Only relative font sizes are used, allowing the user to increase the font size if necessary.
- If the browser does not support stylesheets, the content it is still readable due to the markup structure used in the construction of every page.
Other Features
- All content is written using appropriate semantic markup. All the tittles and subtitles and other items are defined using appropriate tags.
- All pages have the language code identified, so screen readers can pronounce the words properly.
- All page titles are meaningful.
- All forms have labels associated with the input fields.
- All tables used, include table headers, summary and caption.
- Everything in the site is searchable.
- All the content is perfectly visible without horizontal scroll using 800x600 screen resolutions.
- The content is browser independent and in a great extension device independent.
Standard Compliance
- All pages on this site fully comply with the W3C accessibility guidelines priority 1. Priorities 2 and 3 are also heavily covered, but not fully implemented.
- All pages are XHTML 1.0 Strict compliant. As opposed in 1, this is not a judgement call, as specific software can determine this affirmation with 100% accuracy.
- All pages are CSS 2.0 Compliant. Again this is not a judgement call, just like in 2 specific software can determine this affirmation.
Javascript
- All Javascript used is unobtrusive. When used it is a enhancer of structural markup, rather than a core functionality of the website. That means that users that don't have Javascript activated or supported on their browser can still access all the content of the site.
