

Learners' Gallery - Silkworms
During Term 4 the Learning Unit students studied silkworms as part of their Fabrics unit. Activities included caring for a tank of pet silkworms whilst observing their life cycle.
Day 1: The silkworms arrive from the pet store. We have filled the tank with fresh mulberry leaves so that they have food. |

After 7 to 10 days adult moths hatched from the silk cocoons, mated and laid hundreds of eggs. |

Silkworm Life Cycle Posters
Students created posters using what they observed in the silkworm tank, discussions and research to demonstrate the life cycle of the silkworms.

Materials used included cardboard, scissors, textas, polystrene packing (for the caterpillar and adult bodies), glue, wordprocessed labels and coloured paper.
