Larapinta School is fully networked, allowing Internet access, printing and file sharing throughout the school. Each classroom has three computers for student use, the library has 5 computers for student use and all teachers have their own laptop. All classrooms are now equipped with interactive whiteboards.

Computers are widely used throughout the school as a teaching and learning tool.

What's happening with ICT at Larapinta?

Animation

Students throughout the school have been using webcams and digital photos to create animations.

In Year 3/4 Simmonds students used a webcam, stop motion animation software and MovieMaker to animate a chapter of Victor's Quest. Students worked in groups to create the sets and characters from various materials such as plastercene and boxes.

Year 6 Quodling animated parts of Toad Rage using digital photos and PowerPoint. The students held an expo to demonstrate the various work they did throughout their novel study.

Year 2 Mayes - Students from Year 1 Ashenden showed their neighbours in Year 2 how to make animations using digital photos and PowerPoint. Groups of students from 2 Mayes animated a scene from Walking through the Jungle.

Interactive Whiteboard

Larapinta first trialled an interactive whiteboard in 2005. We now have IWB’s in all classrooms in the school and in the Library. We are committed to the effective use of this valuable and new resource. Interactive whiteboards are touch sensitive projection screens that are linked to a computer. They enable teachers to deliver lessons interactively using a range of electronic media including Internet, sound, photos and video. Regularly used software such as Kidspiration and Inspiration can be projected to enable whole class interaction. Teachers are involved in ongoing professional learning which includes a sharing of knowledge with other practitioners with-in and outside the school. See ‘Interactive Whiteboard Project’.
