who we are
Katherine
Group School consists of 12 remote schools spread across 450000 sq. kilometres
in the Katherine region of the Northern Territory, as well as the Katherine
Education Office.
Each school is managed at the local level by a principal but also centrally
managed from the Katherine Office of Remote School Services by the Group
School Principal. Individual school operations are managed at the local
level by the designated principal.
The majority of schools in this group cater for indigenous ESL students.
Many assistant teachers are indigenous and provide cross-cultural support
to non-indigenous teaching staff. In total there are 12 principals, 22
teachers and 21.5 assistant teachers, 55.5 in all.
Schools range in size from 7 teacher schools to single 1 teacher schools.
Within the structure of each school, most principals have a full-time
teaching load and full-time administrative load. Consequently in 1996
all small school principals were reclassified as executive teachers.
