There has been a primary school in Pine Creek for over 100 years,
which makes the school the oldest in the Northern Territory.
The School consists of a Pre School and a Primary School (Transition to
Year 7). The School is located within the township on a large, long block
of land. There is an Early Childhood Unit catering for preschool, transition
and year 1, at one end of the school. This building also houses the school
library. The remaining two classrooms, a staffroom/office and a demountable
building, that serves as a resource storage area are situated at the other
end of the block. There are also two small storerooms and several sheds.
Adjacent to the school grounds is a Playgroup managed by the Playgroup
Association of the Northern Territory. This playgroup is very well resourced
and operates three days a week.
Over 50%
of all students are indigenous, most of them entering school with English
as a second or third language. These students live at Kybrook farm and
at the town camp in Pine Creek. Non indigenous students live in town and
the surrounding region.
