SCHOOL PROGRAMS

ATAS Tutors (Aboriginal Tutorial Assistance Scheme)

Tutors were employed in Pine Creek School for the first time in the 2001. Four people worked as tutors during 2002. The tutoring program stabilised this year with tutors working more regular hours in the classrooms. Next year the school will aim to employ tutors during the morning sessions when students are engaged primarily in focussed literacy and numeracy learning. There will also be an increased focus on individual tutoring both within the classroom and in withdrawal situations.

ASSPA

An ASSPA committee was formed in Term 1 2002 and met the required number of times during the year. Parental involvement was consistent. The ASSPA funds were well used by the committee and contributed to the indigenous students' education in the following ways:
· Subsidised swimming program
· Subsidised excursion program
· Subsidised bush tucker and cultural days/events
· Subsidised breakfast/recess/lunch program
· Purchase of camping equipment
· Purchase of sporting equipment
· Purchase of video camera

Some of these activities involved considerable parental involvement and planning on the part of the Kybrook community.

In effect the use of these funds benefited the entire school population as the swimming and excursion programs would not have gone ahead without indigenous student involvement. Also equipment, such as the video camera, is a resource that can be used by the whole school.
