ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Location & Climate
Bulman is situated in Arnhem Land. It is on the Central Arnhem Road, 315km SE of Katherine, which is the nearest urban centre. The school services the Bulman and Weemol Communities. Weemol is about 7km away and the children are brought in by the Resource bus. Bulman is an Aboriginal community of about 300 people. Permits are required for non-indigenous people who reside there and for their visitors. There are several Out-Stations in the surrounding area.

Community

The Bulman community languages are REMBARRNGA AND DALABON.

The community has an excellent Sport and Recreation hall that includes a full sized basketball court. Every Friday night a disco is held that attracts many from the community. Basketball is played on Friday and Saturday nights.

The Women's Centre operates each weekday providing meals for the children and the pensioners in the community. Four of the local women run this service.

Features

The school has a full Indigenous staff, except for the Head Teacher. The staff is made up of 2 and .5 qualified teachers with 1 and .5 Assistant teachers. The auxiliary staff is made up of 1 gardener / cleaner.

Attractions in the area

The Bulman area has some great features including spectacular rock formations, rock art, the Wilton river and a tourist bush camp.

The Wilton river runs nearby and is a great source of leisure, with excellent fishing and swimming spots (but be careful of the crocodiles - both fresh water and salties inhabit the river). Other activities carried out in the area include buffalo catching and hunting safaris and camping.
