OUR CLASSROOM
LITERACY
Students are successfully learning written and oral Standard Australian
English (S.A.E) in conjunction with their light Kriol language and their
developing knowledge of their traditional Ngarinman language.
Students are encouraged to read daily at home and at school. A school
readin program (both in books and on computer) extends their development
and comprehension. The various take home books are based on their reading
age level.
Oral and written language in Standar Australian English is encouraged
daily in all areas of the curriculum and further promoted through video
recordings, music and performances.

NUMERACY
Students are successfully learning numeracy skills through self-pace computer
programs, hands-on resources and the use of individual maths textbooks.
The students are encouraged to verbalise their thinking and to clearly
set out problem solving on paper and/or with concrete aides. Daily counting,
number and measurement activities begin each lesson.

and HEALTH
Students are encouraged to develop an understanding of their own Community
and land and compare with other places and environments.
Resources from the school library, internet and various agencies are involved
to assist the students in how to reasearch to find knowledge and undertstanding.
Health issues related to relevant problems within the Community and amongst
students are addressed with liaison between the Health Services and various
government agencies. Drug problems within the Community are a contentious
issue that students are learning to cope with in discussions and written
expressions of concerns. Support from staff and visiting personnel is
encouraged. Ongoing support within the Community for a healthy lifestyle
is being addressed by various governement agencies.
