Teaching at
Barunga School
Barunga School is located on the land of the Jawoyn people, approximately 80 km south east of Katherine on bitumen 'all weather road'. The community has approximately 500 people. Barunga is located alongside Beswick Creek in a landscape of undulating savannah-covered hills.
The school has been open since 1953. There is a crèche or Nursery School attached to Barunga School. Barunga School has a strong VET program and some of the students are undertaking apprenticeships in Katherine as a result. The senior students attend courses via the Northern Territory Open Education Centre (NTOEC) which are usually accessed via a video conference link up. VET courses are conducted through NTOEC and Bachelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE).
