The school aims to create a stimulating
multilevel learning environment that is both meaningful
and relevant to your child. This is to be accomplished in
full cooperation with parents/guardians and the broader
community. This environment will be safe and secure to enable
the child to develop skills and abilities to maximise personal,
academic and social potential.
The school fosters the child’s awareness
of his/her own responsibilities and self worth.
The staff are very supportive of peer group
initiatives, joint planning and moderation sessions.
Within Humpty Doo School:
- Achievement through endeavour is given
the recognition it deserves
- Participation and competence are equally
valued
- The opportunity to participate in activities
in all varied areas including those which are traditionally
allocated to males or females is encouraged
- Aspirations, expectations and life
options are not restricted
- Rights and responsibilities are recognised
- Differences and similarities between
individuals are fostered and respected, and
- Practices which do not reflect distinctions
based on stereotypes of race, gender or physical disability
are adopted
As essential aspect of this school’s
operation is it’s ‘open door’ policy.
This school is seen as in integral part of the broader community.
Effective two way communication greatly assists the children’s
education.
This communication is achieved by:
- A weekly newsletter to parents
- Parent information workshops and evenings
- Formal written reports twice a year
(end of terms 2 & 4)
- Monthly school council meetings (as
advertised in newsletters)
- Parent/teacher interviews as requested
by parent or teacher
- Academic, sporting, cultural and social
functions
Parents are also encouraged to assist
classroom teachers by hearing children read, typing stories,
assisting on excursions etc as teachers may request. It
is also important that parents ensure that homework is satisfactorily
completed and that children are sent to school alert and
ready for each day.
