Henbury School is a purpose built school for students with disabilities situated in Wanguri in Darwin’s Northern Suburbs and is within easy reach of shops, restaurants, and the local bus terminal.
Henbury School is a Middle and Senior Years campus that:
- has been open since November 1981 and currently has 56 students enrolled
- is staffed on a ratio of 1 teacher and 1 Special Education Support Officer (SESO) for every 5 students
- involves families in the programming decisions through either an Individualised Education Plans (IEP) or and Individualised Transition Plan (ITP)
- offers a wide range of programs that include Life Skills, Northern Territory Certificate of Education, School Based Apprentices, Certificate Courses, Enterprise Education, Transition to Work, Duke of Edinburgh (DUKES) awards, and Accelerated Literacy
- offers outreach programs at Casuarina Senior College and Dripstone High
- has generous facilities and grounds including heated Hydro therapy pool, covered hall, school buses, a school house, art and craft room, Library /ICT hub, semi – industrial kitchen and open spaces
- has a rigorous wellbeing team that consists of the School Counsellor, School Nurse, School Based constable, Teachers, SESO’s and members of the Leadership team
- can access therapy services
