Student Borrowing

BookWeek

The library opened to students on Day 1 of the 1986 school year and all the students in years 4 - 7 borrowed a book on that day. The rest of the students population began borrowing library books over the first semester. The bookstock was somewhat limited so students in Transition - 5 borrowed one book for a period of a week and students in years 6 - 7 borrowed two books for a week.

At that time the library bookstock consisted of the following:

Picture books - 635 Fiction books - 620

Non fiction books - 1139 Reference books - 105 volumes

Teacher reference - 80

We've come a long way!

  • The school's library now has an enormous range of educational and recreational resources to cater for our students and staff.

  • We have a collection of over 33,000 books, including picture books, novels, non-fiction and an ever increasing teacher's resource section.

  • When you combine this with the comfortable couches in the reading area and the friendly and welcoming environment it becomes a great area for everyone to enjoy.

Students can borrow books within their allocated class time as well as before and after school.

  • They have a borrowing period of two weeks in which the book/s must be returned.

  • Parents are more than welcome to come in and browse through our wonderful selection of books.

  • If there is a book or books that you would like to take home to read, that can easily be arranged.

  • The library has a policy where you must have a library bag before you can borrow a book. We have parent-made library bags for sale in the
    library. These are only
    $3-00.

This is a week of great fun where everyone gets the opportunity to view a vast selection of new books for purchasing. The week ends with a fun day of dress-up that coincides with the theme of the week.
The library also purchases the books that have made it to the short list of the Children's Book Council of Australia Awards. These are displayed and read to the students by their class teachers. The students then have fun choosing the book that they consider should win.
