The Hearing Impaired Unit caters to a number of hearing impaired students. Like the ILU it has specialised resources and staff. The HIU caters for sign and language students. Auslan is available as a second language. Whilst the Unit actively encourages and places hearing impaired students into mainstream, there is a recognition of the need to withdraw students into small groups of conduct one on one sessions. Students are supported in mainstream classes with oral/signed interpreters or note takers.
