Casuarina Street Preschool is located on the same grounds as the Primary School, and is a part of our early learning centre. It boasts excellent facilities with one large classroom well resourced and well maintained. It also boasts a modern kitchen, large veranda at the back, a wading pool, and a variety of outdoor play equipment.

Our Program

The program with its variety of activities is designed to assist each child to develop; a strong sense of their identity, connections with their world, a strong sense of wellbeing, confidence and involvement in their learning and effective communication skills.

The Preschool program is planned to cater for each child's interests and needs, and to foster the development of certain abilities, attitudes and skills which will assist their educational development. We use Developmental play approaches, the Early Years Learning Framework and Strong Beginnings documents to effectively plan and cater for the needs of each child.

Session times

  • GROUP 1 8:15am to 2;30pm Monday, Tuesday and every second Wednesdays
  • GROUP 2 8:15am to 2;30pm Thursday, Friday and every second Wednesdays

Starting preschool
Children turning four on or before 30 June are eligible to enrol in a regular preschool program at the commencement of the school year. This policy ensures all children experience the benefit of a full year of Preschool, before starting Transition the following year. Both groups sessions offer identical programs. There is no age distinction between the two.

Children turning four after 30 June are eligible to enrol after their birthday in a preschool program if places are available and with the understanding that the child will access more than 12 months of preschool.

Preschool Contributions
Session $25 per term - Though we are funded by the NT Government for each preschool and primary student, we also ask parents to make a voluntary contribution so that we can invest this in a high quality of resources for our students. Please be assured that no resource or facility will ever be withdrawn from a child should you choose not to make this contribution. Your money goes towards:

  • extra art & craft supplies,
  • cooking ingredients,
  • specialist instructors,
  • bus fares for excursions,
  • Educational resources.

What to bring to Preschool?
At preschool, your child will need:

  • A broad brimmed bucket or legionnaire hat to be kept in your child's bag (no hat, no play other than under the veranda)
  • A change of clothing to be kept in your child's bag in case of accidents
  • Morning tea and lunch - in a lunch box marked with their name
  • A water bottle for morning tea and lunch
  • A bag big enough to carry all of the above as well as art/craft work
  • A library bag (cloth bags or solid plastic bags are suitable)

PLEASE LABEL ALL ITEMS CLEARLY WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME

Preschool Clothing
Uniforms are not compulsory at Preschool; however we do sell a Preschool T-shirt at a cost of $12. We also have hats for $8.. These are available at the Preschool.

Footwear
Appropriate footwear must also be worn. The best types of shoes are runners, boots or sandals that securely attach to the feet. Footwear such as thongs, slip-ons and high heels are not suitable for Preschool.
