All students and staff have the right to feel safe and comfortable at the College so that they can work in an environment enabling learning outcomes to be met while maintaining the emotional well being of everyone. On occasions, an incident or incidents occur where an individual or group is humiliated or intimidated by the behaviour of other students or staff. This behaviour is called harassment. It consists of offensive, belittling or threatening behaviour directed at an individual or group because of some real or perceived attribute. This behaviour is unwelcome, unsolicited and sometimes repeated. It is the responsibility of the College to ensure that all students and staff are aware that harassment is unacceptable behaviour and to follow up, and if possible, resolve incidents of harassment. Students will have the policy and procedures explained to them as part of the Induction Program and will be informed about their rights and responsibilities with regard to harassment. Throughout the year they will also be issued with pamphlets on harassment from the Anti Discrimination Commission. If a student makes a complaint about harassment to any member of staff, the staff member will be referred to the appropriate personnel (the College Counsellor, Harassment Officer and Assistant Principal Student Services) who will explain and implement the procedures for dealing with harassment.
