Casuarina Senior College has a responsibility to ensure that the rights of both its staff and students are safeguarded. Where a person feels that their rights have been compromised in some way by another person, it may be considered that they have a grievance against that person. The aim of the Grievance Policy is to provide a safe and fair avenue by which complainants may have their grievances addressed; and to inform staff and students of the procedures available to them in order to resolve their grievance. The Grievance Procedures will enable staff and students who may have a grievance against a staff member or student to pursue the matter through an informal, and if necessary, formal grievance resolution process. Confidentiality must be maintained by all persons involved throughout the process. Except at conflict mediation meetings, the complainant and/or respondent may be accompanied by a "friend" from within the College at meetings between the complainant, respondent and Grievance Officer. The Grievance Contact Officer for complaints directly involving students is the Assistant Principal Student Services. Opportunities for appeal are available in the process.
