Good Standing is a privilege given to all students when enrolling at Casuarina Senior College and must be maintained throughout their College course. The purpose of this requirement is to allow the College to function in an orderly manner to encourage student achievement.

Good Standing has an expectation of RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR based on mutual respect.

SOCIAL NEEDS

Examples of responsible behaviour include:

  • keeping doorways and corridors clear to allow freedom of movement
  • being sensitive to the feelings of others
  • observance of a smoke free environment within the College
  • behaving in an orderly manner
  • respecting others irrespective of their gender, race, political or religious views.

Inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour includes:

  • behaviour that may embarrass or offend
  • running within the College building or in the Breezeways
  • swearing and obscene language
  • engaging in activities of a loud or boisterous nature in areas where others may be adversely affected - eg buildings, stairwells, breeze ways,
    car-parks, driveways
  • the throwing of objects or playing of ball games inside the College buildings or breezeway
  • verbal, physical or sexual harassment
  • violence or threatening behaviour towards others.

PROPERTY

Examples of responsible behaviour include:

  • placing litter in bins
  • respecting College property and property belonging to others
  • taking care to secure personal property so that the opportunity to steal is minimised - use the Security Bookroom to store your property.

Inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour includes:

  • the throwing of litter, food and other objects in the College
  • damaging, interfering with or defacing property such as cars, videos, computers, desks, tables, chairs, carrels, and walls
  • borrowing without permission and stealing
  • failure to hand in property that you find at the College.

CONSEQUENCES OF FAILURE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY

Consequences will vary depending on the nature, frequency and severity of the offences, but may include:

  • counselling
  • notifying parents
  • an incident report filed
  • cleaning up of food, litter, graffiti
  • payment for repair of damage
  • placement of a student on a work/attendance or behaviour contract
    withdrawal from classes
  • notifying Youth Allowance/Abstudy of non attendance leading to cancellation of payments
  • mediator
  • community conferencing
  • suspension
  • a recommendation made to the Minister for Education for the termination of enrolment.

LEGAL ACTION

Some forms of irresponsible behaviour may lead to legal action. Examples include:

  • persistent harassment of a member of the College community
  • entering the College campus during a period of suspension or following termination of enrolment
  • assault
  • setting off fire alarms
  • gambling
  • theft
  • serious damage to property
  • use of explosive devices including fire crackers
  • possession of alcohol/illegal drugs
  • entering the College premises under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs
  • possession of dangerous weapons
  • being involved with visitors to the College who engage in irresponsible behaviour or commit unlawful acts.
