Summer of swimming

During Term 4, 2001, students from Canteen Creek School participated in the Summer of Swimming program. Students learnt basic swimming and survival at various permanent waterholes and in the Frew river.

The young children love the shallow water at Olbulokhole

Hatches Creek Mine

Hatches Creek Mine is about 70km from Canteen Creek. Gold and wolfram were sought there. We went there to collect pretty rocks for our mosaic. We slid down the mullock heaps on cardboard.

A Hope and a Future

Students went to Alice Springs and Tennant Creek to explore post primary educational options. We visited Tennant Creek High School and the local indigenous student’s hostel. In Alice Springs we visited St Philip’s College and Yirrara College. The students could clearly see that there are plenty of options for them after primary school they and their parents just need the courage to take them up for a hope and future.
St Philips and Yirrara gave us a very warm welcome

Whilst in Alice Springs we has opportunity to visit a number of other places of interest and cultural significance. We happened to be in town when the Grease musical was on so we went to see it.

The students really did go and see Grease!
