Bradshaw School Community Values

Staff and Parents defined how Bradshaw Community promotes values within the daily routines of school life.

One of the outcomes was a chart outlining four values that were felt to be key to our school community.
Respect
Responsibility
Collaboration
Resilience

Definition

To understand and value your own beliefs and others, in a caring and compassionate way.

Using appropriate behaviour within the environment

Definition

Being personally accountable for and in charge of your actions (self and property).

Definition

To be able to communicate and successfully work together to achieve the best possible outcomes for the school community

Definition

Resilience requires optimism and determination in order to reflect and learn from experiences

Therefore we:-

  • use positive reinforcement
  • show care and compassion
  • have high expectations
  • have clearly defined rules
  • have a whole school approach
  • use role play and role modeling
  • have a consistent approach
  • explicitly teach social skills
  • celebrate achievements
  • cater for diversity

Therefore we:-

  • follow routines, rules and procedures
  • are punctual
  • are committed
  • have consequences (+ & - )
  • provide opportunities for sharing, dialogue and reflection

Therefore we:-

  • get together regularly with peers
  • foster the open door policy
  • are inclusive
  • communicate - questioning, asking, not waiting to be told
  • make decisions as a group
  • utilize skills/expertise of others in the community
  • consider physical set up (seating arrangements)
  • take the school to the community
  • practice mentoring/performance management
  • care/look out for self and others
  • think about the "bigger picture"‚ - impact of decisions
  • negotiate rules and reward systems
  • encourage solutions thinking
  • provide staff and students with real opportunities
  • morning talk
  • class meetings
  • partner/group work - roles defined
  • buddy classes
  • team teaching
  • peer tutoring/mentoring
  • games - inside/outside
  • sports day - house teams

Therefore we:-

  • explicitly teach the skills of giving and receiving constructive feedback
  • provide opportunities for self-reflection
  • understand and accept other's similarities and differences
  • teach strategies to build upon resilience eg.
    • Rock & Water
    • Stop, Think, Do
