English as a Second Language (E.S.L.)

A number of Bradshaw's students come from homes where English is not their first language.

At Bradshaw if a student requires E.S.L. support it can be provided in various ways:

Learning Technology

Bradshaw School has a networked PC platform throughout the teaching and administration areas.

Each learning area has a set of computers that are used within the daily context of teaching to support and enhance the curriculum.

In 1999 an Information Technology Lab of iMac computers was set up for classes to visit. In 2003 the Lab was updated with eMacs. Following the completion of a 3 year lease agreement, in 2006 the Lab converted to XP machines to maximise productivity between the classroom and the ICT Lab.

In 2001 as a result of the LATIS rollout each classroom was supplied a networked PC enabling classroom access to the WWW and printers. Computer numbers in most classes have now increased to an average of four a room. (2006)

During 2007 Bradshaw has a teacher in place to support classes with their I.C.T activities in the lab and the classroom.

Languages Other Than English (L.O.T.E.)

Teachers from the Language Centre visit classes throughout the year to provide lessons in Indonesian, Arrerntre and Japanese.

N.T. Music Centre School

The NT Music School instrument programme is based at the Alice Springs NT Music Centre. The instrument programme caters for students who wish to learn musical instruments, voice or keyboard. A music teacher visits Bradshaw two days a week to deliver lessons in our Music Room.

P.M.P (Perceptual Motor Programme)

P.M.P. is a programme of movement activity designed to operate during the first few years of formal schooling.

Currently this programme is accessed by all Preschool-Year 2 classes. It concentrates heavily on the development of the perceptions and language which enhances a child's learning ability.

Children are involved in activities that develop sequential memory, body strength, a good body image and spatial concepts. Students participate in eye tracking exercises and work co-operatively with others.

Religious Education

This is undertaken by voluntary instructors representing the major church denominations and usually consists of an hour long session every four weeks during the second semester.

Attendance at Religious Education is a parent option.

Resource Programmes

Each year staff at Bradshaw nominate areas on which to base resource programmes. In past years the focus has included visual/performing arts, music and library. In 2006 two resource programs are in operation providing specialist teachers and programmes.

Library -

Each class visits the library for a weekly lesson.

During the lesson..

  • the students are encouraged to return and borrow books
  • a variety of skills are taught...
    • literature skills - appreciation of literature, awareness of authors and illustrators

This semester Mrs. Phillips our new PE and Health teacher will be running a healthy lifestyle program in every class called‚ "Hunting For Health".

There will be 7 healthy lifestyle messages that will be promoted across the school:

  • Be more activeEat more fruit and vegies
  • Eat more breads, cereals, rice, pasta, noodles
  • Eat less fatty foods
  • Wash your hands before you eat

As well as healthy lifestyle messages every child will be able to participate in many different forms of physical activity. The message that will be delivered is from the‚ "GO NT Find 30"‚ promotion:
