Stockman Extravaganza
A webquest about stockmen

This webquest looks at the changes in a stockman's life on Northern Territory pastoral properties over the last 50 years.

It should be of interest to:

  • Students aged between 10 to 13 years.
  • Students from rural areas including communities.
  • Students with below average literacy.
  • ESL students.

The students need to develop a slideshow presentation of a 3 day Holiday package entitled "Stockmen Extravaganza".

This webquest meets outcomes from the Northern Territory Curriculum Framework.

This webquest was created by Jan Powick and Jennie Caddie from Batchelor Area School, NT.

This website provides information about stockmen over the last 50 years. It was gathered from 3 people who worked on pastoral properties during these eras and is therefore their account of life and work on a cattle property as they remember it.

Era 1
1950s - 1960s
Era 2
1970s - 1980s
Era 3
1990s - to present day

Each era provides information on the following:

The Station Homestead
The Stockcamp
Living and Work Conditions
Recreation

Web galleries can be found under "Boots and All". These have been included to assist children with their webquest task. A glossary of terms can also be found under this heading.
