Teaching Schools
Bakewell Primary School is proudly participating in this exciting
new partnership between our school (as one of the identified Teaching
Schools) and Charles Darwin University in order to play a major
role in preparing the next generation of teachers.
The Teaching School model is based on the medical training model
"Teaching Hospital". Our school will provide the practical learning
opportunities that create a tight fit between theory and practice
for Pre-service Teachers. We have 10 Pre-service Teachers placed
with 10 Mentor Teachers one day per week from Term 2 until the end
of the year.
Students will complete each year of their study at a different
school. This enables the Teaching and Learning Degree graduates
to be fully prepared and workplace ready to teach in a diversity
of settings now and in the future. Mentor Teachers are classroom
teachers who provide access to their classroom/learning environment
for the purpose of supervising, coaching and mentoring Pre-service
teachers, so they can successfully complete their Portal tasks (linked
to assessment).
Assistant Principal, Gail Laine, has the role of Professional Learning
Leader (PLL), who manages the operations of the Teaching School
experience and is a member of the academic staff of CDU School of
Education. The PLL is responsible for building the Mentoring capacity
within the Teaching School, delivering on-site tutorials, and providing
advice and guidance to Mentors and Pre-service Teachers.
There are many benefits to being involved in the Teaching School
experience including the professional learning opportunities for
our teachers which are increased significantly, as are the opportunities
for us to reflect on and improve our professional practice.
Strive and Grow with Respect and Co-operation
