Student Leadership Council (SLC)
Members: The SLC comprises 12 Year 6 students including the male
and female School Captains one of whom is the Australia Day Citizenship
Award student. Nominated students for these positions present a
speech outlining why they would be a good leader to an assembly
of Year 4 - 6 students. An election is held to determine these positions.
Year 6 classes then have a separate discussion and an in class election
to appoint an additional two SLC members for their class. The 6/5
classes elect one Year 6 member. The SLC program is facilitated
by two teachers.
Our Focus: The SLC focuses on three main areas:
- Leadership Skills: SLC members participate in a range of activities
that aim to develop their leadership skills.
- Community Contribution: This is where the SLC look at how they
can make a difference to our community. One major fund raising
event is organised for the year.
- Representation: SLC members are encouraged to bring to meetings
any student concerns or ideas they have had passed on to them
by other students. By focussing on this area the SLC can work
towards making the school a better place everyone.
Meetings: SLC members meet every week for one hour. Each fortnight
students participate in one Representation meeting and one Leadership
Skills session. SLC members are responsible for conducting the Representation
meetings. Members are rostered to take on specific roles including
Chairperson, Minute Taker, Typing the Minutes and Action Sheet Recorder.
SLC Uniform: The uniform is an important component of the SLC role.
By wearing an identifiable shirt students are easily recognised.
This enables students to identify their SLC members and look for
the behaviours that Student Leaders display.
