Special Education
At Bakewell Primary we strive to achieve an inclusive approach
to support students with special needs. Our Special Education Teacher
provides programs designed to meet the assessed individual needs
of students. These programs support each student's Educational Adjustment
Plan (EAP), which is developed in collaboration with parents, teachers
and involved specialists and is reviewed twice yearly. The younger
students attend withdrawal groups for part of their school day,
focusing on developing the skills they need to successfully access
the classroom and the playground. All students are able to receive
most or all of their EAP within their mainstream class, with Inclusion
Support Assistants (ISAs) supporting them. The Special Education
Teacher facilitates ongoing training for ISAs, inviting specialists
such a Speech Pathologists, Behaviour Management, Special Education,
and Early Intervention Consultant Teachers to participate in the
ISA's Professional Development. Teachers are also supported in the
development and implementation of each student's EAP.
Gifted students are catered for through Differentiated Programs
in their classrooms with support from the Special Education teacher
and Senior Teaching staff.
