Student Support Program:
Bakewell Primary School provides flexible Student Support Programs
that are designed to meet the changing needs of students. Students
needing extra support are identified through a range of information
provided through Whole School Assessment (Years 1 - 6) , NAPLAN
results (Years 3 & 5), Assessment of Student Competencies (Transition),
teacher observations, assessment by outside agencies and through
concerns raised by parents.
Currently there are several programs running to support a wide
range of student needs, these include:
- Communicating to be Heard - aimed at Preschool and Transition
students with a focus on Speech and Language, listening, attention,
and early literacy skills such as sound awareness, rhythm and
rhyme.
- Early Childhood Literacy Support Program focuses on the three
main areas of Literacy - Reading, Writing and Oral Language. The
aim of the program is to improve Literacy Outcomes for all students.
- Quicksmart Maths Program: aimed at Upper Primary students with
explicit learning of number skills.
- Maths Streaming
Year level teams for Years 3 to 6 classes organise their Maths
classes in ability streamed groups. Students are assessed to ensure
they are placed into the correct Maths group that will meet their
learning needs. There is flexiblity in the grouping to enable
students to progress to the next level.
- Rainbow Reading Program is an intensive small group reading
program aimed at developing students' sight words, reading comprehension,
text sequencing and oral reading fluency.
- Jolly Phonics and Jolly Gramar Focus Groups
The focus groups target identified students to explicitly learn
the sounds and names of letters of the alphabet and recognise
parts of words, whole words and words in sentences.
Each Semester these programs are reviewed to ensure that students
are progressing and that student needs are being met.
