School Council / Parents

School Activity

Hello and welcome to Bakewell Primary School. My name is Jodie Winston; I have recently (August 08) taken up the role of chairperson for the Bakewell School Council as our previous chair Pete Chandler was elected as the member for Brennan. I congratulate Pete on his success in this electorate and look forward to working with him and the school community to continue to help our school grow and prosper.

I have been a member of the Bakewell School Community since 1999 when my eldest daughter commenced her first day at pre-school and I will continue to be part of the Bakewell School community until at least the end of 2012 when the youngest of my three children finishes grade 6. I have been an active council member for the past four or so years, I have done volunteer work in the classrooms, currently work full time for the Department of Education and Training and I am almost finished my teaching qualifications. I believe that this broad range of experience equips me to work well within the school assisting where I can.

Bakewell Primary School boasts some of the Territory's most modern facilities, but facilities alone don't make a good school. The people do! From our Principal, June Wessels, her teaching and administrative staff, and the parents of our children, all have an effect on making Bakewell Primary School the best Primary School in the Northern Territory. How or why has this happened? In my opinion it has a great deal to do with a program of continued self-evaluation. The outcome of this self-evaluation has delivered a culture of progressive improvement within our School.

I am extremely proud of Bakewell Primary and regularly boast to anyone that will listen, what a great team - staff, students and parents that Bakewell is blessed with. The challenges that the school have faced over the last 10 years have always been addressed positively with professionalism and pride, seeing the school grow and prosper over time.

As we come to the close of our 10th year Bakewell Primary continues to update its facilities and maintain its glowing reputation. I have no hesitation in saying that Bakewell remains the best primary school in the Northern Territory and will continue to do so with the hard work and commitment of the principal, teaching and admin staff, council members, students and parents.

The School Council works collaboratively with the school community to ensure that the children at Bakewell Primary have access to the most up to date educational resources available and continue to be challenged, educated and rewarded in a positive learning environment.

Included within our council structure are a number of sub-committees made up of council members, administrative staff members, teachers and other dedicated parents. These sub-committees meet regularly to address various school issues forwarding recommendations to Council. I encourage and welcome parents to become involved by attending Council meetings, assisting with fund raising initiatives or becoming a Council member, and hope that I somewhat live up to my predecessor's achievements.

I look forward to the challenges that lay ahead.
