Bakewell Primary School and Pre School is now in its tenth year of operation and caters for students from Pre School to Year 6. The school has a strong focus on 'working co-operatively with the School Community to provide a safe, caring and supportive learning environment. We respect and value the diversity of our community and place a strong emphasis on teaching and learning and wellbeing (student, staff and community).' Our school encourages and values 'trust, partnerships and effective communication' across the whole school community. We focus on improving student achievement and outcomes and meeting individual needs by implementing relevant, interesting class and support programs using particular facilities and resources. These include Collaborative / Team teaching approaches, Buddy Class program, specialist computer lessons, Physical Education program, Early Childhood Literacy, Numeracy and Perceptual Motor programs, Resource program, Quicksmart Maths program, Special Education program, On Task Training, Social Skills programs, Rock and Water program, leadership opportunities, School Choir and Instrumental program. Further development of the playground and facilities for effective play and learning continues to be a priority for School Council. Their achievements include new playground equipment, various types of seating and shaded areas, new sandpit and extensive fencing of the school grounds and play areas. With the school's inclusion in the Early Age of Entry Trial this year the Early Learning Unit is now well established and provides a safe play environment for our younger students. Classes in the Upper Primary area of the school have been organised in Year 6 and Year 6/5 groupings to facilitate Middle Years implementation and strategies. An active School Council with various Sub-Committee is in operation. Where possible community and parent support in partnership with the school is utilised to assist students, classes and school programs.
