Girls at the Centre

The Girls at the Centre program is a comprehensive program to help indigenous girls in years 7-9 stay at school, make the transition to senior school and develop plans and post school goals.

The program aims to achieve four outcomes:

  • Literacy: Improved school attendance and achievement
  • Life Goals: Aspirations and positive pathway action plans and relationships
  • Life Skills: Improved social and emotional wellbeing and resilience
  • Communities: Schools and workplaces that support 'emerging women'

Elements of the program will include a girls room, a girls coach, breafast with a mentor, Families and Schools together, Core of life (pregnancy, birth and parenting), one on one and group mentoring, workplace visits, developing individual action plans, literacy tutors, weekly activities and an annual camp.

The girls at the centre program is run through The Smith Family. The Smith Family is an independent non-profit organisation committed to helping disadvantaged Australian children by unlocking opportunities through education and learning.
