Irrultja

Irrultja is asmall Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory, 300 km North East of Alice Springs, 80 km South East of Ampilatwatja.

Irrultja is a "Homeland Learning Centre". It is a small school with students ranging from four to fifteen years of age. About 40 students are enrolled at the school, but not all of them attend at any one time as they often travel to other communities in the region. All the students speak Alyawarra as their first language.

Irrultja school has two air-conditioned rooms and this allows the staff to separate the students into two groups - seniors and juniors - for special activities. At other times, the students all work together in the main teaching space.

The school is staffed by an assistant teacher from Irrultja and a visiting teacher who drives out each day from the hub school at Ampilatwatja. The school is open four days each week - Monday to Thursday.
