Information for Parents
Parent Participation
Alawa School and Preschool have an open door policy where parents/guardians are encouraged to participate in the program and are welcome to stay for as long as they like. Preschool families are their child’s first and most important teachers and starting school is an opportunity to share the next stage with your child. If you are able, the staff and your child will appreciate time you can spend assisting during the day. It is helpful if you can indicate when you are coming so we can plan activities with an extra adult in mind. It is always helpful to have an extra pair of hands working with the children, or helping behind the scenes. Parents are always welcome to join the children on excursions. You may prefer to help in other ways eg:- sewing, gardening, washing, repairing books. This help is always greatly appreciated. Another option may be to share your special skills with the children eg:- music, cooking, gardening, woodwork. For families with younger children, they are most welcome too!
We love parents, but we also love grandparents or other responsible adults. So come along don’t just let the children have all the fun.
Preschool Levy
The preschool levy is $50 per term. This can be payed in full at the start of the term or part there of e.g. $10 per week until paid. The Preschool levy is used to provide a wide range of equipment and consumables; including art and craft supplies, food for cooking, and some toys, book and puzzles and administration supplies. It is very difficult to provide a quality program if we are unable to purchase these goods. The levy can be paid by cash or cheque at the preschool or by EFPOS at the main office of the primary school, you can also make phone payments by phoning the office on 89279122.
Dropping Off Children
An adult must accompany your child into the preschool and be handed over to a staff member. Children are not to be dropped off and left outside the gate, on the verandah or at the front door.
If you arrive early, please wait with your child until starting time (8.15am). Please encourage your child to find their own locker, put their bag away, lunch out, return/borrow their library book and share any special news or something they have to show the staff and children (this is a basis for some of our learning during the day). If you wish or are able to stay and play with your child, fabulous! Just join in! Parents, guardians, carers or friends are welcome to stay. If you want to chat about you child or if you have any concerns, Sharon is available to talk to you during this time or at the end of the day. If you have concerns about your child after you leave please phone. We are here to alleviate your fears as well as your child’s.
Collecting Children
Parents are requested to collect their children on time. In case of emergency or unforseen delay, please ring the preschool. This can help avoid your child becoming upset if they are not collected on time. It is necessary for the staff to be notified (by phone or prior arrangements) if someone not known to them will be collecting your child. We are unable to release your child to someone whom we have not been told has permission to collect your child. Collection by older siblings only siblings who are in Grade 5 or above can collect a preschool aged child. In the event that an unforseen incident has occurred and you have not collected your child on time and the staff are unable to stay with your child; your child will be taken to the front office of the school to await collection. A message will be posted at the preschool.
Contact Details
In case of illness or emergency it is important that the preschool has correct contact information. Please advise the staff if your contact details have changed.
